11.120 Bizarre Hammered Bronze Arts and Crafts Chandelier, with original patina!
Exactly where to start? Well, this fabulously bizarre spider-like fixture is cast in solid bronze, even down to the lanterns with upside down heart piercing! The lanterns, solid cast in three pieces, were assembled by hand with real copper rivets. The hammered texture is one of the deepest we’ve ever seen. Amazing detail in the canopy, with a fabulous sculptural quality reminiscent of the nature forms common in Art Nouveau designs. This might be a period attempt to copy a Stickley design, who made similar fixtures with heart-shaped piercing on lanterns. We cannot find any maker’s marks. The patina is original, at least what we believe is original, though we’ve cleaned many years of smoke residue and given the whole fixture a new coating of wax. There are some repairs to the lantern’s copper shade supports done in an earlier restoration, although they are well done and blend in well. We had to make new amber mica shades and of course rewired the entire fixture. Lantern height can be adjusted by changing length of wire. Fixture is 18” by 18”, has a drop of 29” and each lantern has 14” of wire as shown.
