1150 Hammered Arts and Crafts Porch Light
1150 Hammered Arts and Crafts Porch Light
An absolutely stunning porch light!!! This is our all time favorite outdoor light for it’s amazing design elements as well as fabulous hammered texture throughout. Perfect for the quaint bungalow or your pirate abode. We’ve cheated a bit calling it arts and crafts--the solid aluminum casting gives it away that this is most likely a 1920’s or 30‘s piece, when the storybook style was all the rage. (Think Snow White and her Dwarves....) We’ve stripped the layers and layers of paint, plated the parts in real copper, no paint here. The dark patina is hand applied and relieved to give this light an incredibly rich textured surface. A clear matte finish protects it. Note that the original mica shade was long gone (it had been replaced with a fiberglass one--the horror!) so we’ve fabricated a new one and given it several coats of lacquer for extra protection. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used for lamp shades and the like into the 1930s. Care should be given when placed outside--if you live in extreme temperatures, you might want to consider this for a semi protected place like a covered porch, rather than a place that is exposed to all the elements. Also be aware that mica softens at low temperatures of only a few hundred degrees--we recommend using low wattage bulbs, or perhaps a compact fluorescent (not our favorite bulb, but they have their place in today’s world.....) For incandescent bulbs, we’d recommend a 40w max. The open bottom will spill a lot of light out onto your porch. 11.5” tall, 6.5” deep and 5” wide. Back plate is 4.5” by 8”.
