1161 Virden Storybook or Arts and Crafts 5 Light with Original Finish
1161 Virden Storybook or Arts and Crafts 5 Light with Original Finish
This is one of our most popular fixtures--we may have sold more of this fixture than any other! They usually sell fast, especially with the original finish. In this case, we might have a matching set of several 5 lights and 3 lights--inquire. This line was made by Virden in the early 1930’s and called the “Berkeley” line. This came in a series of sconces, three light chandeliers, and 5 light fixtures. There were two versions of the fixture body--a single piece with integrated wireway (shown here) and a more common center hanger with 5 stretchers that supported the main body. Perhaps one was a later design change to make the fixture simpler to manufacture. There were several generations of shades--here we’ve got clear glass with amber paint on the inside. All are in great condition. This fixture suffered a catastrophic fall, which broke parts of the main body, and fixing required brazing the parts back together from inside. The original finish is a bit scorched in these areas (see lower photos) but instead of a total refinishing, we think these areas blend well enough to leave alone. This fixture is 35” tall including finial, and 17” wide. We can remove up to 12” of chain for shorter ceilings. Ask about the short ceiling version.
