863 Exquisite Brady Smoking Lamp, ca 1920?
How to describe this piece?? Unbelievable! Very heavy (30+ pounds) of solid cast bronze, fabulous detailing and incredible design. This piece features its original patina and original mica panels in the pendant lantern. There is a lovely covered ashtray well below the lantern, grasped in the mouth of a fantastic lion. On the side is a small hatch, probably for a retractable electric lighter, but we’re really not quite sure--with the interior ashtray missing (maybe there was never one) it’s hard to know for sure. We’ve rewired it with our favorite twisted cotton braid covered wire and fitted it with an authentic style plug for authenticity. But wait, there’s more!! Look under the hood and you’ll discover this lantern has a hinged panel concealing a glass lens that focuses the light on your cigar, novel, or periodical. This piece will be the perfect companion when relaxing by the fire in your leather wing back chair, brandy snifter in hand. Overall 54” tall and 12” wide. Lantern is 6” by 6” by 12” and can take 100w bulb. The top decoration does not sit plumb, but we preferred leaving it as is, rather than risking further damage. This may have suffered a spill as it needed some brazing, tooling, and patina matching in the swan neck to repair a break. Shipping charges will be pricey--this piece is heavy and considered “oversized”. Be prepared!
